Raymond Sylla

For forty years, Raymond Sylla has served the international community as choreographer, historian, teacher and musical arranger of traditional African Dance and Drum. He has served as artistic director of Orisa Dance and Drum Troupe for several years.

Originally from Dakar, Senegal, Mr. Sylla has traveled to many remote African Villages. He has met first hand with the leaders, elders and others who were and are the keepers of the history, and culture of traditional dance, music and song.

Raymond Sylla is a founding member of the Ballet Afrikans de Diabel Geuye and has performed as a dancer, choreographer, ballet master and teacher with the. He has served as a research agent for the Cultural Affairs Ministry in Senegal, being selected on the basis of his anthropological studies of ethnic groups in Senegal.

Mr. Syllla was granted a fellowship by the Ohio Arts Council. Presently he serves as a visiting artist critic for the Ohio Arts Council. Mr. Sylla is dedicated to the preservation of traditional West African culture and shares the culture through the living art forms of music and dance.

A Healing Experience of Senegal
This trip to West Africa will be for the purpose of experiencing the traditional anicent healing medicine of Africa. You will receive traditional medical treatment and/or spiritual healing done through ceremony. This tour is recommended to people sufferung from ailments such as cancer, diabetes, hiv/aids and undiagnosed symptoms.
This trip package will include:

Consultation with traditional African medicine man / healer with the supervision of Dr. Emil M.D.
A visit to the historic healing village of Fatick, Senegal
Traditional African remedies from Malango Traditional Medical Center
Spiritual healing ceremonies
A room in the Malango Traditonal Medical Center

Cultural Group Tour of Senegal
This will be a grass roots cultural experience of Senegal. You will be exposed to religion, language, history and the arts in a two part program, one week taking place in Dakar and the other half on the historic island of Goree. Individuals interested in tracing their rootswill have the oppoertunity to do so. A certificat will be awarded to those completing the drum and dance workshops. The cultural tour will include:

Classes in traditional dance and drum
Language classes
Senegalese history and religion classes
Tourist activities
Lodging at Hotel Yengoulene, Dakar and Hotel Chez Makha Diop, Goree
