Starry-Eye Notes 2002 |
The new lunar year begins again a procession of new Moons through the star groups of the zodiac. The Moon becomes new as it passes between Earth and the Sun.
The Moon is a symbol of the mind. The Moon is a symbol Mother of nurture and growth. The Moon is a symbol of water. We become new by a renewing of our minds as we are nurtured by the raditations of each day.
Peace and new mind in the new year,
Clarence

Overview:
There is a great gathering of planets. The gathering is visible in the western sky just as the Sun sets. Of the gathering planets, highest in the western sky is Jupiter, Guru, Brihaspati, the minister, great spiritual teacher, guru to the planetary beings, lord of sacred speech and prayer. Next is Saturn, Sani, the old man, another great spiritual teacher. Where Guru teaches with philosophy and precepts, Sani teaches through experience - you reap what you sow. Then is Mars, Kuja, the General, the spiritual warrior, the force of action. Then is Venus, Sukra, refinement, harmony, the planet of devoiton. Just above the horizon is Mercury, Budha, the messenger, the intellect, the planet of enlightenment.
On the evening of May 3rd Saturn , Mars, Venus and Mercury will all be gathered together within the span of the constellation Taurus, Vrishabh, with Jupiter in Gemini, Mithuna, twenty seven degrees above the group of four as they descend below the western horizon. Later overnight May 4th at 2:00am Saturn and Mars will be at the same degreee, Venus, and Mercury will be nearby, the four planets together spanning fewer than ten degrees.
The drama continues through June, and on the fourth of June, Venus the planet of devotion attains the degree of Jupiter. On that same day Saturn is at the same degree as the north node of the Moon, Rahu, the head of the serpent dragon, who stole the drink, which bestows immortaily, belonging to the planetary beings. Rahu, never visible is a point in space that is always on the move. It has been with the planets as they gathered in Taurus all along. Rahu is an ecliptic point and on June the 10th Rahu will attempt to swallow the Sun and cause a solar eclipse that will be visible over the South of Africa, the Indian Ocean and Australia.
Mars will continue to pursue Jupiter attaining Jupiter's degree on July the 2nd. During the course of July the 19th Mercury the planet of enlightenment and the Sun the indicator of the Soul in all, Soul of the universe and the Self, Atman, attain the degree of Jupiter inthe constellation Cancer. Kataka. All the time the Moon, symbol of mind, emotion, growth, nuture, as it orbits Earth, has been collecting and reflecting the energy of the drama as it cycles, entering and exiting the field of intensity. While the Sun and Mercury are conjuncting Jupiter on July 19th, the Moon is with Ketu, the south node of the moon, the tail of the serpent dragon, an instinctive unconscious spirtiualizng energy, an indicator of enlightenment, in the constellation of Scorpio, Vrischik.

The stellar light of the night comes from light years beyond. The light we see emanating from a star on any given night radiated from that star many years ago. The nearest star to our Sun is forty light years away. The galaxy in which we live, the Milky Way, diameter is given as eighty thousand light years. Earth is estimated to be twenty-five thousand light years from the center of the Milky Way, our galactic center. The galactic center is situated in the direction of the constellation Sagittarius. More specifically the pointer is six degrees Sagittarius.

"The object of experience is composed of the three gunas* (qualities) - the principles of illumination (sattwa), activity (rajas), and inertia (tamas). from these the whole universe has evolved, together with the instruments of knowledge - such as the mind, senses, etc. - and the objects perceived - such as the physical elements. The universe exists in order that the experiencer may experience it and thus become liberated."
Yoga Sutras 2:18
*The three gunas (qualities) sattwa, rajas, and tamas are also described respectively as goodness, passion, and ignorance.
